In 2012, Random Alchemy artist Lisa Dittrich contributed her striking painting, “Black Velvet Boom,” to the Atomic Vegas/Area 51 exhibition at Blackbird Studios in Las Vegas.
Depicting a fiery nuclear mushroom cloud painted on black velvet, the piece captured the dramatic imagery and dark nostalgia of Nevada’s atomic era.
The artwork was featured in a July 2012 Las Vegas Weekly article celebrating the exhibition.
Downtown entrepreneur Derek Stonebarger purchased the painting for the legendary Atomic Liquors, Las Vegas’s oldest freestanding bar, during its historic revitalization.
According to Lisa, the painting continues to hang at Atomic Liquors today—a fitting home for artwork celebrating Las Vegas’s extraordinary atomic history.
